Industrial Heat Pumps
Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. Energy can only be moved from one place to another.
Cooling & Heating are two sides of same heat energy transaction.
Cooling is removal of heat from matter to be cooled.
Heating is addition of heat to matter to be heated.
Cooling cannot happen without heating happening correspondingly & vice versa. Money is usually spent on availing any one side of transaction while other side is allowed to go waste. If we somehow avail both sides of transaction & put into use, we end up saving big amounts of energy. This very fact is at the heart of integrated solutions that we offer to industry.
What is Heat Pump
Heat pump is a device that enables movement of heat from a low degree heat place to a high degree heat place.
Heat pumps are designed to move thermal energy opposite to the direction of spontaneous heat flow by absorbing heat from a low temp medium and releasing it to a high temperature medium.
The chain activity of sourcing, moving, enhancing & delivering heat is performed by a conventional air conditioning compressor.
A Heat pump, does not make you pay for the heat energy ( it is free of cost from any renewable source ), it makes you pay only for the electric energy required to run the compressor for pumping the heat energy from lower degree to higher degree.
Evolution of Heat Pump
As such, heat pumps occupy quite a space in our day to day life. An air-conditioner, a refrigerator, a water cooler, a cold storage & a lot more appliances built around a compressor, are all heat pumps. Unfortunately, all these utilities/conveniences keep adding to carbon footprint by releasing condenser heat to atmosphere.
It was during second half of 20th century that HVAC think tanks started addressing the environment issues & commercial heat pumps started appearing in market as an alternate to electric geysers for sanitary water heating in homes, hotels & hospitals.
This method of heating water started enjoying more & more acceptances because of sizeable reductions in energy bills.
Evolution of heat pumps never slowed down since then.
Having experienced performance of heat pumps for commercial applications, heat pump makers started looking at industrial applications for heat pumps & industrial heat pumps today are capturing big attention & space in manufacturing industry as an enabling solution for reducing operating cost & making the process more environment friendly.
In manufacturing industry, deployment of heat energy is massive & adds hugely to operating costs. So, any solution that reduces heat energy yielding costs & simaltaneously replaces fossile fuels with renewable heat sources, is a wanted solution.
It is not only the manufacturing processes that use heat. Today an equal or even more concern is about dealing with the industrial waste water, wherein massive heat energy is required for ZLD solutions.
It is the high time that manufacturing industry adopts industrial heat pumps as an essential equipment alongwith other utilities.
Process fluid combination possibilities with an Industrial Heat Pump
Evaporator
Low pressure expanded refrigerant liquid enters the evaporator & collects heat from: -
Renewable (Free of Cost) heat energy sources like,
1] Process Waste Heat in Vapour form.
2] Process Waste Heat in liquid form,
3] Ambient Air,
4] Geo-Thermal Heat,
5] River
6] Ocean
& boils to become low temperature vapour & travels to compressor inlet.
Condenser
High pressure high temperature refrigerant vapour enters the condensor & rejects high degree heat, to heat
: -
1] Water
2] Air
3] Space
4] Process Fluids.
& condenses to become high temperature high pressure liquid & travels to expansion device inlet.
Why an industrial heat pump for an industry, and not any heat pump ??
A heat pump for industrial duty has to qualify on following : –
1] Ability to deliver hot side medium at high temperatures, commonly between 80 to 90 degC.
2] Ability to deliver cold side medium at low temperatures, commonly between 7 to 12 degC if required.
3] Ability to sustain heat load fluctuations on both side of compressor & keep performing optimally.
4] Ability to withstand unfriendly & harsh industrial environment around & keep performing for long periods.
5] Rugged & robust built-up for down time free continuous operations.
In-light of above qualifying parameters, the product calls for better designing skills, proper selection of inputs like compressors, pumps, heat exchangers & protection automation.
Why choose us
Our varied and versatile exposure to industry has equipped us to design and deliver very reliable industrial heat pumps.
Bill of material for our machines is globally premium. Compressors are Bitzer, Pumps are Grundfos, heat exchangers are packless, kelvion, alfa laval, as required.
In processes involving immersion heating / cooling , we offer our exclusive pillow plates & plate coils.
We design & build industrial heat pumps in heating capacity range of 10 kw/hr to 200 kw/hr. Capacities larger than 200 kw/hr are no constraint.
We talk to you & customise
More than one factors have to be considered to figure out an optimum version of heat pump .
No two sites are similar. For an optimum solution each site has to be evaluated in terms of involvement of heat energy at the particular site.
Then, we need to know your constraints and limitations in terms of footprint space , orientation possibilities , type of energy deployment , whether primary or secondary , and many other nuances.
Our perception is that you and us have to arrive on the same page before the formal solution is proposed by us. In view of our interaction with you , we propose a particular version out of the following on offer : –
1] Single compressor ,
2] Multi compressor , isolated circuits.
3] Multi compressor , in parallel , known as compressor racks.
4] Single screw compressor for capacities larger than 150 kw/hr.
Successful industrial heat pump makers around the globe focus on 2 key elements in their production process: Product Optimization & Cost reduction. Imagine the synergistic benefits if both could be achieved together while reducing carbon footprint. We help customers do just that by providing industrial heat pump (IHP) technology for their facilities.
